Bone Graft

« Back to Glossary Index

A dental bone graft, or jaw bone graft is a surgical bone graft procedure which is used to replace missing bone or augment existing bone. It is a kind of oral surgery that builds up the amount of bone in your jaw.  This provides a strong foundation for successful implant integration.

Dental bone graft needed where there has been significant bone loss due to tooth loss, periodontal (gum) disease or trauma, which has caused the jaw not to have enough bone volume or density to allow dental restorations to be placed.

Bone can be taken from the patient themselves (autografts), from a donor (allografts) or from synthetic or animal products.

At our Cheadle dental implants clinic, we perform bone grafts for patients from Manchester and Stockport who need additional support for implants. Aftercare includes soft foods, careful brushing, and avoiding smoking.
